The treadle base table is finally finished and in place. My husband helped me with the assembly of the table. The top is from an old Victorian side table that came from the estate of two spinster sisters in Pike County, Ohio. They were living in the early 1800s home of Robert Lucas who was Ohio's 12th governor. The home is called "Friendly Grove." The base came from a home in New York City, where the 100+ year old owner said it was from her grandmother's treadle machine. The top was completely stripped, sanded and refinished in dark walnut with three coats of shellac. The base was coated with boiled linseed oil, and then wiped to remove any excess. The table now proudly sits in the entryway of my home.
