Just acquired this leather covered Romadka trunk (a Western Star) .It has a nice brass lock, embossed metal and all of it’s Romadka patented metal hardware. The leather is not in good shape. It sadly is missing all of it’s interior trays and compartments. These will have to be acquired or made from scratch to pay the right respect to the trunk. It is 34” wide, 27 “high, 22 “deep. Well worth the 4 hrs. Driving to get it. The swivel caster patent date is 1886 ,so it’s-produced no earlier than that. The previous owner was very interested in seeing it refinished instead of just rotting away in a damp garage. Looking forward to bringing it back to a presentable condition. Should be fun .I’ll post pictures when completed.

Keep looking Brian I got a feeling that your gonna get lucky soon. I’m betting a Western Belle with all the trimmings. I must say the 10 year search was half the fun for me.

Thank you gentleman for the interest. Some patents that apply to this Romadka trunk that helped to date it.

Looking at your trunk again Drill, or should say drooling over it, I don't think people realize what a fantastic trunk this is, super high quality made by one of the top makers of the time and yet it didn't get the recognition it deserves, this is the kind of trunk that I dream of and really gets me excited, but let someone post a 50 dollar run of the mill trunk, that I personally wouldn't give a second look at and people go crazy over it, I just don't get it, trunk's like this are becoming harder and harder to find, and I hope to find one soon, as always I appreciate and admire your work Drill, greendog.

A worthy project and great find! The transformation will be stunning... such joy to find and work on these. Why do you call this a Western Star... is this a model name?
    9. greendog greendog, 5 years ago
