I paid $1 for this thing just to bring it home and post it here! I picked it up and shrugged at the seller and he shrugged right back. That's when I knew I had to have it.

We used to use a similar tool to slide between sheets of steel and lift it just enough to attach a grab!! To lift the sheet to a shear/roll or brake. We made ours out of old car springs. That's what I think ???
No real idea but I would guess a shipwrights caulking iron to smooth inside the hull. Just 2 cents worth.
I agree with YGHS ,its a body shop tool for fenders or anything round,,no doubt about it ...lol
here.s a new thinner one ...they call them spoons ..

I still have a doubt. Compare the handles. One shown online is for striking. The handle on mine is for holding (no striking surface). Something that might relate: Also in the lot of tools was an old Timken hubcap wrench (from a time when a hubcap actually held a wheel on) Do you think this might be a tire iron? Just a thought.
a wrong thought -- GIJoe wins the box of Mars Bars! -- this auto body spoon has a very similar handle -- mystery solved.
