It is the 75th anniversary of the D Day landings in Normandy so here is a Airfix model spitfire to mark the occasion.
This Mk IX 1944 Spitfire is painted with invasion stripes. These were added to all allied planes taking part in the invasion of Normandy to make identification of friendly forces easier, often being painted in the field. They were removed again once it was apparent the invasion was a success.
Great plane & thanks for showing the original, they did a nice job duplicating. Very fitting D Day tribute
Excellent model and a fine tribute to D-Day.
Classic airplane and great post to honor the 75th anniversary of Overlord. I salute the vets of The Greatest Generation, including my father, my uncle and a cousin I never knew that was KIA in Europe in the USAAF.
