Debs Hayle worked for Jefferson Amusement Co. in which he was Vice President and General Manager for 35 years. In 1936 he opened his own film buying & booking agency which dealt with booking events and movies into area theatres. He was known to have visited regularly with Walt Disneys' right hand man, Jimmy Stewart and Gene Autry (to name a few remembered). He was a native of Victoria, TX. and a Dallas resident for 50 years.

eugene debs hayle was my great-uncle. no one called him anything but debs, as far as I know. I sure wish I'd known enough at that age to ask about the reason he was so named - another interesting but lost family story. debs was an expansive host and we loved visiting their house. he once gave me (mid-60s, I must have been 12) a groovy promotional paper dress printed with movie scenes. I don't remember the studio. anyhow... another great-uncle, Gerald Bell, was an artist and chef, and something of a craftsman. I have some items he made, and they are crazy and cool. I wonder if Uncle Gerald made this tiny Oscar for Debs. they were both great cooks, raconteurs, huge kidders and drinkers.
