Found this item on a beach located on the Potomic River in Virginia. Have no idea what type of tool this is. Does anyone have a clue as to its origin .

Yes, you squeeze the lever and handle and the mouth of the tool closes. I've never seen one before. Do they still make them? Any idea what it was use for. It's about a foot long.

Thanks Brunswick and Bobby for you comments. Never expected such a quick response.

Bobby725 hit the nail on the head. We use these all the time down here in Florida. Some of the fish here have some major dental work and you could end up without a finger or two without one of these.

After learning what the tool was, I found them online. The one I found was all rusty and I thought I had found an antique tool. I don't fish so that would explain my ignorance. Guess the only antique tool here is me. ???? Thanks again everyone.
