Hello everyone,
Another of my cast iron doorstops. This one was simply called "Begging Terrier". I do not know the manufacturer of this one. It measures 8 3/4" tall and 3" wide. It's a two piece design held together with a square nut and a slotted head bolt. I don't see many of these, so when I came across this one I did not hesitate to buy it. It's one of my favorites of my collection of doorstops.
Thanks for stopping in for a look!!!

Cute little fella :)
Actually he was named Begging Terrier (no Boston). If it hadn't been repainted it would be worth quite a few hundred dollars. I believe if you research it the holes in his feet are for a very good reason. He would have been mounted with screws on a wedge shaped piece of wood with the taper facing behind him. The wedge was slid under the door to keep it from moving. The wedge was also used when the door was closed to prevent someone from coming inside. Kind of like a backup locking system.
Thanks buckethead!!
Great info fhrjr2!!
This one had also been repainted with several thick coats of latex paint that was peeling away. So, the value had already been lost. But, I really liked the looks of him and bought him.
jscott0363 while this pup is from an unknown maker, no manufacture date can be established because the maker is unknown. However, all may not be lost. If you are familiar with stops you will understand what I am about to say. Look at the side view of your pup ( picture #1 or #4) notice the posture and how the begging paws are held. While this guy is unknown, he comes extremely close to Bradley & Hubbard begging animal door stops. Just an observation. If there happened to be a B&H mark on the side of the pup under all that paint a few hundred would instantly be a few thousand dollars.
fhrjr2,
No B&S hallmark that I can detect, inside or out. But, I'm still happy to have him in my collection.
Lol Thomas!!
Yep, he's constantly begging for a treat. But, my two real life dogs always beat him to it:)
Thanks everyone for the loves, comments and for stopping by!!

jscott0363 Since I stopped collecting stops my links, notes etc. are scattered over a number of external hard drives and thumb drives. I did find a note I made about this particular dog and made reference to the size, use and name. I have the same measurements as you followed by French Bull Dog begging, bookends, Paris??
Thanks very much fhrjr2!! I have a couple of small cast iron forward facing Fox Terriers. They're also held together with a flat head slotted bolt and square nut. No one has been able to tell me anything about them, such as what period they were made in and who the maker was. They came to me as a pair. I'll post them sometime soon.
