The model is 1970s, the 1/1 version was 1925-1933. Very cool airplane with corrugated metal sides. You can take a ride in one of these for about $75 so do so if you get a chance. Back in 1925 this was a luxury airliner. Back then a coast to coast trip may have included a combination of plane and train rides.
Sadly this model is missing the wheels but I can salvage some from a broken model. These are very fragile and broken mini-planes are common. Don't think I have mentioned the 3 motors yet, all exposed radial engines, looks great. Another nice touch are the TWA stickers. Also there is information and nice artwork on the back of the box. I have seen one of these flying and while 125 mph is fast on the ground it looks rather slow in the sky.
Now to look up when one of these (the real one) will be offering rides around here.
I had a Monogram model of it that I think had the TWA markings also. The Tri-Motor is cool looking with non-cowled engines and the corrugated skin. It was revolutionary for its time and really one of the first passenger planes that was comfortable to ride in.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. Not sure how many other passenger planes were fully enclosed at that time. Just having an enclosed cockpit was a novelty yhten.
That's a real beauty. :) Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much Simone.
Thank you
