Antique Key education 101. We know there are skeleton keys, automobile keys, etc. But not much more knowledge than that. Is there a key type we should be looking for that has more value than others? My wifes' grandfather was an elevator mechanic and collected items such as keys, books, and buttons. She has a shoe box full of these keys and we are just trying to find someone who would appreciate them the way he did. I looked into donating them to a non profit and only found one in Plymouth, NH which is not close to us. Any suggestions on what to do? Is there a key shown that has interest? (We do not know what we are doing on CW but this is what google directed us to do.)

Many jewelry crafters use keys in their necklaces. Check out key jewelry on sites like Etsy or Pinterest and eBay to see how they can become something other than just a plain key.

Some of the keys pictured do not look antique; with some research, you may be able to sort out the truely antique ones.
But, regardless of age, a jewelry crafter could make good use of some of them.

      Thanks for posting. :-)

Lots of folks (myself included) collect assorted keys (whether actually antique ones or not) so it shouldn't be too difficult to find somebody to take them off your hands, via ebay or a local thrift shop/flea market or something. It DOES look like a nice assortment, possibly including some unique examples?!

I could certainly take them off your hands. I am a key collector and I love all types of keys. If there is anybody that would love and appreciate them, it would be me.
