Found yesterday at work about 3ft underground. No idea what it is. Hoping somebody can shed some light on it.

It's heavy. And all one piece. One side of the blade kind of sinks in at handle where the other side runs straight.
Don't think it's a froe. Look DIFFERANT. carnt think at all what it is.
I have used a froe a good many times in my life and find fault with this being a froe. A froe has a perfectly straight blade usually longer than this with a right angle handle. The one in the link above wouldn't begin to cut a shingle and is someone's idea of a survival tool. Probably for cutting kindling wood for a fire.
Don't think it was made for wood. And it one whole piece. Seems a bit much for someone to just make themselves. Would have to be a good black Smith. No idea what it's for. Don't think will find out it's really heavy. All one solid piece
bobby725 that is what the site is all about, guessing and giving a point of view. I wasn't putting you down nor meaning any offense. Simply pointing out why I feel it isn't a froe.
Thankyou for trying. It's bugging life out of me. I don't think it's any sort of weapon or nothing. At first I thought it might have been from back in days. For home renovations breaking though old style plaster etc
Looks like an old height regulator knife or coulter chisel on a norfolk plow back in the olden days....
Reminds me of the tools for slicing blubber from whales. Where did you find it ? Does it look like it was made to mount on a pole ?
What is/was around the area where it was found? Any kind of industrial or farm facility, or maybe near a road or railroad? Just guessing of course, but I could imagine something like this finding some (?) usage in that sort of environment??
I thought that about mounting a pole. But the end is solid doesn't like like it went on a pole. I was doing some fencing on a house. An fitting a water pipe. An as I dug about 3ft for pipe it was there. It was close to house but not near the foundation. Think the house has been there about 30 yrs. An there's never been no rail roads or farm land etc around.
Now you are starting to make sense. This is cast, heavy and obviously not for cutting something. Your statement about a pipe makes sense and explains the depth. Year ago pipes were packed with oakum rope and poured with lead. This type tool would have been used to accomplish the job.
So what would this been used for. Where I was digging there was no other pipes I was running a pole right Down side of house. From front to back garden.

You havnt confused me. You have confused yourself. Your obviousley one of them people that don't like to admit when they don't no An answer so make something up. Then blame me for not understanding. ????????????. You obviousley have a lot of spare time on your hands. Why don't you use it to find out what it actually is or just don't comment. ????
