I got this clock in the mid 1980's or so, when it came down from the wall in the showroom of the small-town lumberyard where I worked at the time. As far as I know, SENTRY was a kinda short lived (?) hardware store "brand name" that preferred to market their product in 'existing businesses' (vs. standalone stores, that is) in that era right before the now ubiquitous 'home center superstores' came into being.
Illuminated by twin fluorescent tubes inside (w/pull chain switch on its bottom) it measures about 15" x 27". A small label on its back identifies it as made by BENCO INDUSTRIES INC. of TN, with what I'm guessing is a January 1982 date stamp. Its plastic front has now yellowed with age (and/or the UV light from inside) and also has a few little dings/cracks in it, fortunately nothing critical considering how much more fragile it probably is now than 40 yrs ago when it was fresh and new and white...? ;-) Both lights and the clock motor itself still seem to work perfectly, BTW. :-) :-) :-) :-)
THANKS MUCH to fortapache, jscott0363, Newfld, EJW-54, & elanski for stopping by and sharing the <love it>s!!
A funny thing...back when I got this clock, I did indeed hang it up on the wall in my apartment, because it was both a handy 'clock' and 'night light' in the hall, keeping me from tripping over stuff on the way to the can in the middle of the night. ;-) But I also, then, never paid it too much attention than such -- at the time I would have much preferred a lighted 'beer clock' instead but didn't (still don't) have one. By my next apartment it first got hung up to serve the same general purpose, eventually getting displaced when I came across a RC COLA lighted clock instead. (which, though still not a beer/booze name, was a much more commonly recognizable brand than 'Sentry Hardware"...??)
AND NOW. Here we are ~30yrs later. And I think I like it more now than I ever have -- simply because "Sentry Hardware" **isn't** a common brand name anymore...whodathunkit...? <LOL>
MORE THANKS to officialfuel, Bruce99, buckethead, Vynil33rpm, & Roycroftbooksfromme1 for your <love it>s for my "obscure" clock!!
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
