My sister came across this in a little antique store. The trunk appears to be done tongue n Grove style, under the black it appears to be originally covered in something that is supposed to look like wood grain. Also has 2 styles of slats, the top one extends all the way to the corners, while the ones below it are just tucked into the tin on either side. Haven't really seen this before, looking for info
It's a monitor top trunk. I've heard some refer to these as waterfall trunks.
I've only seen that faux wood grain pattern a couple of times. I really love the litho inside the lid.
I have only seen the faux wood grain one other time, but have never seen the sides pieced together using tongue n grove, is this common in trunks? And the two different types of slats? I'm considering putting full slats across the bottom as well with a set of corner pieces I pulled off of another trunk, but not sure if the different types of slats are important or not. Sigh...
