Luanne,
I have not been able in my searching to find anything specific on your pocket watch as shown in your photos. A clear photo of the movement would be helpful'
Here are a couple of things I observed in my search:
1. The dial on your watch is similar to a Gallet Chronograph watch made for the New York Central Railroad conductors & engineers (see this link):
NYCRR Pocket Chronograph (1916) - pocket watch with timer manufactured by Gallet for rail road conductors and engineers of the New York Central Rail Road.
http://www.galletworld.com/files/Stopwatches/gallet_ny_central_railroad_1916.jpg
2. The only thing I could find on the name Longevin is:
Robert “Bob” Longevin, volunteer work with the Billy Jones “Wildcat” Railroad
https://www.mercurynews.com/2013/04/15/longevin-a-longtime-volunteer-who-helped-build-the-wildcat-railroad/
The timeline between the Gallet watch and Robert Longevin is quite a span, so most likely no connection, but an interesting observation.
I do believe your watch is what is called a "private label" and Longevin is not a manufactures name but a jewelers (although I could not find a jeweler by that name) or could be a type of presentation watch.
Anyway, a nice watch and I love research.
Dave
(I hope my links work)
Hey Dave, a big thank for all the legwork you did on the watch!! I am totally captivated by the information you posted!! I will bring the watch to the jeweler to open the back to get a clear picture of the movement. Hopefully, that will provide us with some answers. Again Dave, many thanks for the great research, it is truly appreciated!!
Hey Roy, I thought I had posted a comment to you yesterday but I see that it is not there, my apologies!! Thank you as well for the detective work you did on the watch!! I plan to bring the watch to the jeweler to have the back removed in hopes of solving the mystery about the manufacture and time period. Thank you so much Roy in helping to identify this watch!!
Luanne,
The only other watch I found with the same small sub-dial at the 12 o'clock position, is a wristwatch : The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935
https://www.longines.com/watches/heritage-collection/l2-812-4-23-2
There may be others, but these are the only ones with that same sub-dial I have located so far.
Dave
Hey Luanne53..no apologies needed .. sorry for the typo's ...lol and the fact we couldn't nail it down ...lets us known how you make out at the jeweler... enjoy the day ...
Dave, you are awesome!! Could it be possible that this watch is indeed a custom, private label watch or were they all custom made?? From your research, it appears someone knew what parts they wanted and someone built it for them. Very, very cool stuff, Dave - pretty exciting, actually!! I’m in hopes of getting it to the jeweler by Tuesday. Thank you so much again Dave for all your help! Luanne
Hey Ray, hopefully as I told Dave, I’m in hopes of getting this to the jeweler on Tuesday. I will post the picture or pictures so that the both of you can get a look at it. Thanks again for taking an interest in the watch!! Luanne
