My husband and I just learned of your site. I do love antiques. The hanging oil lamp was passed down from my grandparents. When I was growing up my Dad hung this lamp in our Living Room. He had given it to my cousin who now has given it back to me. I do not believe he ever had used it. I love the green glass. It has not been converted. Has anyone seen just the globe being used? It is beautiful but I do not have the right room or window to hang the lamp. I had suggested to my husband to maybe just hang the globe. What are your thoughts? I do know the lamp is dated around 1890 and it is slag glass, maybe West Moreland or Akoragort.
Love the old lighting belong to couple site on FB. Just my opinion you would be disrespecting the piece by separating it. The story would get lost in translation without it being together. And once it separates you never know they could be lost as a whole to and in history forever. It is beautiful just the way it is.
NEVER burn an oil lamp without the chimney in place. The heat will crack the shade without using the chimney.
