This is very symbolic for me. Many years ago, i had an encounter with a bear while hiking with my dog - up on Zuni Mountain in New Mexico. And i've been looking for an interesting Zuni fetish and this one sure is interesting! A hunchback bear - made from carved stone with inlaid eyes - i think MOP, but not certain. It's signed 'ZUNI' on one foot and something like 'B. Mattu' on the other. I'm pretty awful at deciphering signatures though...

I figured out the signature. it belongs to Bernadette Lateyice Hattie, Zuni Pueblo.
correction, it's her son Brion Hattie.
Really nice little figurine- I especially love the eyes, I can imagine him looming out of the darkness of a cave on a mountain ledge in the dawning spring
