Unusual Japanese Carved Ivory Statue

Hi I have recently acquired this unusual carved ivory figure well I think its ivory

It is to heavy for wood

The carving is a of man maybe a Monk carrying a Crook/staff with flowing robes

It is hollowed out at the bottom and has a very dark patina

It is much lighter inside .Thats what made think it was ivory or bone

He is 8ins tall and heavy

Any help would be appreciated
