    This is an old painted china cabinet. I would like to know what period this is. Also what the name of the top of the cabinet wood carving it is. Would appreciate any information given. Thanks

      Be very cautious about opening those top doors. In picture #3 there is a ghost woman looking out. Wait until she leaves to open it. No telling what her intentions are. She is holding a camera so maybe cover this with a sheet or something so she isn't taking private pictures. Hehehehe.....I couldn't resist.

      I think you are asking what the name is of the top part of the cabinet.....it’s called a broken pediment top.

      Thanks for telling me about the broken pediment! I believe the wood is mahogany or walnut because it’s dark stained

      Look up that style - “broken pediment” top. Broken just means it has that opening in the center; does not mean it’s damaged.

      Broken pediment is simply an architectural term and has nothing to do with being broken. It simply means the two top pieces don't come together, they have a break between them.

      I agree with not being good this was painted. Nice part is someone did a really crappy paint job and it should be easy to strip down to the patina.
