I am trying to identify these bowls. They seem very old to me. Very heavy, well made with a strange signature. I looks like a face. Only one bowl is signed. They both feel smooth as silk in your hand.

I think it might be Purinton Pottery, here's a link to an etsy site with a Pitcher:

      https://www.etsy.com/listing/486194182/vintage-purinton-pottery-fruit-ice-lip?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=purinton+pottery&ref=sr_gallery-3-20&frs=1

I couldn't find a Bowl to show, but I think Purinton Pottery! :^)

But Here's another Stoneware Pitcher that's closer to yours, but It's unmarked, also on etsy:

A question leads to another question! Not sure now, but I've seen this, and have some, but I'll keep looking! :^)

You guys are both on the right path. Billretirecoll, that is the exact same design. But still don't know the origin or maker. Hmmm.........

No luck finding out who the maker is, it also looks a little like Franciscan Earthenware and that would give it that very smooth feel! Welcome to CW PGuditus, and good luck, there's a few pottery people on here, I hope they know what this is! :^)

Here's another one it's called CP pottery, Cookson Pottery, or California Pottery:

Someone will know for sure what it's called! :^)

Check Chatham Pottery or Chatham Potters
    7. billretirecoll billretirecoll, 5 years ago
Very good art.pottery, CP Chatham Potters. That's why, unless the people know what they're selling, they shouldn't give it a name/maker, unless they have proof of it!
Thanks much, now we all know! :^)

Here's the Chatham New Jersey Historical Society news letter, that has the history of the Chatham Pottery, that your Bowls were made at:

      http://chathamnjhistoricalsociety.org/sites/default/files/CHS%20JUNE%20NEWSLETTER%202015.pdf

      I hope this helps! :^)
