Hi,
You have a sterling silver 'porringer' - nothing to do with wine tasting. It's not silver plate hollow-ware. It is by Wallace Silver. It's very lovely indeed. Good wishes for your collection! Welcome to CW.
Hi Gillian. Thank you for the information .I am very pleased ! I loved IT and i gonna read about the porringer history . I love this porringer too ! D.A.???????? thanks a lot you let med be a member of CW.
This piece is Silver Plate. If it were sterling silver, it would be marked as such by the model number and makers mark. .
I looked for this item on Replacements.com, and it was listed as Sterling.
I ran a weekly estate auction for several years and do not recall ever seeing a piece of Wallace that was not marked Sterling if it was. Here is a Replacements link for this piece.

I grew up knowing Porringers being used for Wine Tasting, but also as Baby feeding dish, or Broth/Soup bowls, here's a google image search for Wine Porringers, but really I think they're use is determined, by the person using them! :^D

I hope this helps! :^)
Thank you for the comments and information about the porringer!
@welzebub
I apologize to you anddag, and also to welzebub for leading you to believe this piece is solid sterling.
The urls are different.

No apology necessary. From the links, it appears that the model number of the one in your link is actually 4238, which is likely the pattern number used for Sterling, and also a slightly different size exanmple. The sizes of the pieces are different. The 633 (this one) is shown as 3-5/8 inches, and the sterling version 4238 is shown as 4-3/8 inches. So we all learn something..... :-)
Actually, in looking at the Replacement pieces again, they have different style handles and sizes. It is also noteworthy, that this example is titled in the post as a Wallace 663, but the handle says 633.
They come that way too keramikos, but of course! :^D
Sorry for mye 636 instead of 633 AS my pickture show you. Anyvay.... Thanks agein for your innterest about my subjeckt....I Will use it to control the color of the wine before i faste ... ;)) .Soon i will post a pepper mill. ..thx again!
Looks like a quaich.
