I just got this Root Coca Cola bottle. It has the number 857 embossed on the heel which could be a combination of a date and model number or just a model number. I think it dates between 1926 and 1932, when I read that Root went out of business. I've been collecting stuff here in Miami for about 30 years and I've never seen this bottle before so I'd love to know more about that 857 number.
P.S. I just found a real informative article (4th pic) and now I'm hoping my bottle is as early as 1909.
What does the top look like? I thought that they started making machines bottles in the early 1900's. I love to learn from other people's posts. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for the kind words WPA Collector. I actually am very proud of it. Regarding the 8, it looks more like a chip in person but I can definitely see in the pic how it looks like an 8. I honestly can't tell.
Treasure Tex, I don't know if it's machined but it's not even really close to being symmetrical. You can feel it in your hand how off-center it is. But I don't know if that means that's it's not a machine bottle. I updated one photo with a pic of the top. Thanks.
The 8 looks like a bubble?
I know the 857 is from the manufacturing, the mark below it looks like an 8 but I'm pretty sure it's just coincidence.
Great find:)
