This is a Morris chair I was lucky enough to acquire. It is in terrific condition and is most comfortable seat in the house. I think the maker was probably Allen Brother in Philadelphia before 1910. If you have an educated guess leave in comments I would like to know more about it because it’s not leaving until the kids have to do something with it.

The term Morris chair comes from the furniture maker William Morris which produce the first mechanical reclining chair. Most all had padded cushions that were removable and some like this one with fixed cushion seat. The wood designs were wide ranging from simple to very ornate but all reclined mechanically.
