Well that puts you at a disadvantage. Regardless of what it was known as in 1900 the EPA wasn't formed until 1970 under order of then President Nixon.

The badge emblem isn't actually EPA. It is a NYC badge and emblem most likely issued for identification to anyone who worked for the water department or engineering dept. The badge and emblem are easy to find online if you do a search.

When I had my club in Negril in the 70's-80's, we had lots of college students there partying & smoking ganja. Many would talk to me about their indecision about what career to pursue. I would advise getting in the EPA while it was starting. Tried to explain how they would have industry leaders by the pair and how they would be pseudo-Deity, get bribes , scary power etc.. Often wondered how many took my advice ? Probably should have followed my own advice ! Naw. I did better !

BB2 You were so right with your advice. I got my EPA certification in the late 1980's. It opened doors to opportunities that I would not have otherwise qualified for.
Even better happened after I retired and moved to Florida. The city sewer line on our block had been failing for years. It got so bad you couldn't flush and holes were opening in lawns where leaks were causing erosion underground. I called the city to complain and they said the project was in the 5 year plan. I mentioned EPA rules on unlawful discharge in the aquifer zone and that my EPA certification requires me to report unlawful acts or omission of acts. Interestingly the gentleman I was speaking with came directly to my house (after quitting time) he reviewed my complaint and assured me the entire sewer line on the block would be replaced with work starting the next Monday. I was provided with his private cell phone number in the event anything went wrong. Work started the following Monday and six weeks later everything was completed. I have a number of new friends down at city hall who are just a phone call away.
