This is a 1908 Julius Andrea and Sons phone. It was my great Uncles and it was left to me.

Is that rotary dial assembly actually wired into the phone, or just a spurious piece sitting there in its bottom?? One way or the other it seems out of character (newer) with the rest of it...?

      It is wired in

Thanks for the clarification Ccarpenter906b. I'd still contend the dial (also the plastic covered wiring around the hookswitch) suggests that your Uncle (or somebody) rewired and added it (the magnetic 'door catch' too) to the phone, in order to have been able to actually *use* it in more recent decades. (1940's-50's maybe?)
Still a really nice piece, I don't think I've ever heard of that company, nor seen their work. Its magneto is particularly nicely made! :-) :-) :-)
