Just purchased this Japanese Cloisonne vase from a local estate sale. This is not my usual area of collecting but found this small, (ca 7" tall) vase especially appealing. A collector of Asian art happened to be present at the sale and identified as Japanese cloisonne dating from circa 1920. There is a mark on the bottom and although I found an image on Google that appears to be the same that image did not include the identity of the artist. Welcome any/all comments regarding the general description and especially any assistance in identifying the artist. Thanks
do a search on 'Ando cloisonne'.
Wonderful piece, called enamel on silver stippled ground. I know this mark, will have to go and dig through my documentation, I was a collector for many years. Thanks for posting.
This is by one of the OTA family and studio cloisonne master craftsmen, his name is Jinnoei. The custom as many other decorative hand crafted goods that were exported in early 20th century, was that families would be involved for several generations in the production they excelled at. You may find other Ota producers, with first names Toshiro and Kichasaburo that are older.

Another potential source with the same mark you have, may be Hayashi, HACHIZAEMON. Also second generation cloisonne master. Father was Hayashi, Kodenji.

I just have to laugh because I found my full page of my old 2009-2014 website's Japanese cloisonne marks provided on Pinterest, by another long term Canadian Ebay seller. It's a small world.
Small world indeed - thanks ever so much! Learning from experts like you is so rewarding. I'll visit both links shortly! Thanks again
Thanks also to ho2cultcha for the suggestion - somehow I didn't see your comment previously. Such a wealth of knowledge on this forum!
