Does anyone know what this thing is, if it's got missing components, and an approximate age that it might be? A friend of mine has had it for years, and I am baffled by it. It reminds me of something that would've been used in WW I or WWII for telegraph/morse code. Any insights would be very appreciated! Thanks.
Looks like the guts of a ditty box. Doesn't look right for military use. Possibly used by civil defense or a ham operator.
Thanks for the insight..... It's been driving me crazy and it isn't even mine, lol.
Looks like a bell ringer to me.

Gary, I'm going to be a fireman when I grow up. Wis ah had yor hed fer figers. By the way, that seniors line can take longer than the regular line. Seems a lot of customers think it means senor (you can add the accent over the "n").
