These are a few of my 550 favorite barbed wire designs. That is the number of patents issued for barbed fencing between 1867 and 1930.
The center wire is most unusal. A loop in the wire with crisscrossed straight barbs held in place by a staple. The completed barb is larger than a walnut. It likely was large enough to adhere to the visibility laws that were passed later on.
Anyone have a resource to help me identify age of an old steel fence post, with barbed wire on it?
I have photos of the steel U-bar post and the barbed wire.
