Have not6 added a true vintage GI joe set for quite a while. But found this blue field radio at the Rose Bowl. I knew this was not one of the usual pieces so I bought it along with some other accessories. Turns out it is from the small carded set Communications #7812.
The set came with the blue radio, clipboard with pencil and paper, orange map case with map and binoculars. The lot came with everything but the map case but luckily I had one at home. Fleshed out the set with a few other accessories and here he is.
It is a 40th anniversary figure but everything else is vintage except for the boots. Added a pistol belt, Life Vest and an M1 carbine. Hasbro didn't quite what to do with the figures other than the Army figures so they tended to release pieces in other colors to fit in with the other services thus a blue field radio. Even the modern figures are very light on airmen. It is 1/6 scale infantry wor4ld.
Joe lookin sharp, he's all geared up! Is that the cat next to his back strapped radio, I see a glowing eye & dark fur (or do I)
What an awesome G.I. Joe set. The radio is a great find! I see the cat in pic #1 hiding behind GI Joe.
Nice, and I see the hidden cat. Is that the correct hat for the airman? It doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the uniform
Thank you very much Newfld. That is a refection from the glass cabinet.
Thank you very much Scott. Yes that is the cat!
Thank you very much elanski. That is the hat that comes with the basic Action Pilot. I am thinking of switching it to a blue Navy Helmet.
