As you read when you read the site rules, you don't ask for values here. The link at the top of the page where it says APPRAISAL is where we get value estimates. I am sure your other questions can be answered when the right person signs on.
So sorry! Ill correct it!!
Early 1900's monitor style trunk also called waterfall trunk because of the rounded top edges, not a steamer trunk but rather a travel trunk, the metal on trunks is a thin gauge sheet metal coated in tin to help protect it from rust much like a tin can, referred to as tin covered trunk, the middle area smooth tin was probably at one time what they called a crystallized tin finish, looked like a frosted window, came in many colors, gold being the most popular.
Thank you so much for that information! Im thinking that i may restore it and try to lean towards more of preserving its age rather then trying to make it look brand new again..any suggestions?
In my opinion, some one has repainted the trunk at some point, so cleaning and refinishing it to your taste is up to you, it definitely needs some TLC.
After reading your first comment a d taking in the information you were able to give me, i dug up this listing that helps shed a little more light on the mystery this trunks been givin g me!

I agree, i do believe it may have been re-painted at some point. As too what my plans are for it, im not entirely sure yet. Again thank you for your help!!
no problem, good luck with it.
Yeah i read your link, your trunk may have been all black as the link stated, there were so many different combinations of finishes that its hard to say but by no means is the monitor trunk a rare trunk and I doubt that anyone gave them 700 dollars for that trunk, if they did I must be doing something wrong.
