Loetz etched and cut glass

Since long Loetz cut glass has been neglected, only recently it was considered in more detail by an reference article in loetz.com. The major contribution of Loetz to 'Art Deco' design is, what I call the 'Silhouette etched, cutting enhanced' décor. Here the dynamic cutting accentuates the structural features of flowers, foliage and fruits. There is no other company known in producing comparable pieces. A fine example is shown by the bowl made of 'Anna yellow' glass, covered by a thin layer of cobalt blue glass, with etched fruits of apples, pears, grapes and foliage, vividly enhanced by cutting. Another example is posted in the last foto, sadly enough this vase was cut down, it would have shown a top rim comparable to the bowl, a motiv known from many other Loetz etched vases. Other examples with thistle flowers may be seen in one of my earlier posts or in the above mentioned article. The bowl stands H=7.0 D=20.5 cm and the remains of the vase are H=17.5 D=11.5 cm
