    So we were up in the badger state last week visiting and found some interesting stuff at some antique stores . Not sure of the year of the train set and don’t know if it’s all there . the lid is missing. Interested in any info . Thanks

      Looks like pre war tin plate. The info I read said the 1668 engine is from '39. They made this engine first in '35 as the 1668e, they dropped the e in '39. Lionel didn't produce trains during the war and changed to plastic in stages after the war. I'd guess it's from '39-'41. I don't think it's post war. Nice streamliner choo-choo no matter what. I love tin plate.

      Some more I read said the boxcar was from '39. I'm leaning toward '39 for the set.

      Toyrebel . Thanks for the info . Your are very helpful . I thought it was pre war when I bought it .

      You have 2 oil tankers which is a bonus. All the other 4 pieces seem to be from the original set with the exception of the orange colored Shell oil tanker. Many sets would get mixed up from being operated with extra rolling stock being added.
      Toyrebel's information is very accurate I'm thinking along the same line that this is the 1939. It is a very nice set and a great find for you.
