I assumed this inherited toolbox was made by Gerstner in Dayton, Ohio, but there is a barely visible red and yellow label on the front that contains the word "products" and "Wisconsin". I am wondering if it is worth spending $600 to have it redone. I was told the original boxes were made by Gerstner and other companies copied it. I could find no company in Wisconsin who might have made them at one time.

I'm curious why you'd want to get it 'redone' -- it looks like its in pretty nice original condition to me...?? :-) :-) :-)

I thought if I sold it, a buyer would expect it. The wood still looks okay but the felt in the drawers definitely needs to be replaced. I’m curious about the manufacturer because I don’t think it was made by Gerstner or Union who made similar boxes for Sears and put a Craftsman label on them.

Years ago Craftsman used red and white or blue and white decals or for top of the line a metal tag on front. Each tag or decal indicated a different quality.

Your chest was manufactured by Schartow Iron Products Co. in Racine, WI. They didn’t have anything to do with Gerstner or Union, except compete for the business.
You can visit this site https://sites.google.com/site/theguideforwoodmachinistchests/pg-84 to see a picture of its original nameplate. I would suggest that if you wish to sell it, don’t do any restoration to it. The people who do restorations prefer to obtain chests in their as found condition. Good luck.
