Would love any help to narrow down a year or company for this piece. I also have a great story behind it. This was in my Grandmothers home in Iowa and furniture that was around when my Dad was a boy, he doesnt remember when his mom got it. She died in the 1960s and my dad drove back to clean out her house, most things went to Goodwill and I wasnt born yet. They had to travel from Cali to clean the place out. Dad brought this back and then sold it to a woman in town for $100(yes in the 1960s). Well a few yrs ago my father told me who in town bought it and I went to her home and there it was sitting in her living room(as shown in the last photo above), we told her us kids would love to have it if she ever will part with it. I have ended up helping her work on registering her home as a historic home and one day she said "I should just give it to you" but she wanted a piece to replace it for her collectibles. We have been hunting for mos with no luck until a trip to Az I found a piece for her, so as of a month ago we made the trade and the piece is now back in the family. This piece has had quite the travel! :) Any help on dating this piece or manufacturer is appreciated.
Beautiful piece. Excellent story! ;)
Usually called "Side-by-Side"Secretary Bookcase Desk circa 1900 difficult to place manufacturer but is certainly one of the more ornate and high end of the period Very Nice
That is a wonderful story. I have been looking at a piece similar to this one. What is something like this worth?
I have admired these for years, and you are fortunate the owner was nice enough to make the trade. $100...what a steal ! I have this style furniture and I would say it's from around the turn of the century..or early 1900's. My great-grandmother who died in 1964 had one also. Don't know who ended up with it but I was very small then.
