Thank you very much for all of the replies to my inquiry about the sword I recently purchased. I will reply to some of the questions asked. The length of the sword is 87cm. The length of the blade is 72cm. The blade has the following inscribed near the hilt. HEEV D8B. The 'D' could be a zero. I will upload an image of this. Added to this below are the following numbers; 7711.

Thanks for the additional information and pictures. The blade length would match up to both British and American boarding swords (cutlass) from the mid 1700's. I would still question this being Asian or original because of the markings.

Now we are down to deciding if it is really old or a fake. Design is Nippon, but the markings aren't. I'm leaning toward repro..

Again thank you for your kind consideration of my sword. I seems there are issues with it which suggest it may be a replica. I'm not sure and would like to investigate it further. I don't seem to be able to find images of the swords mentioned of which mine may be a copy of. I will continue hunting. I am fine if it is in fact a replica however would like to somehow have this confirmed with an image of the original and the differences between the 2 pointed out.
      Thanks again!
      Enrico
