This Hineri Iwatsu bowl is 8.5" in diameter and 5" high and the labels are in fair shape. The glass is very thick and it is something of a monster in both size and weight. It is very photogenic, though, even with my phone camera. I had difficulty in settling on which images to show. It explodes when the light strikes it. No idea when it was made. Maybe Karen knows...

It is a testament to the strength of this glass that it arrived unscathed given the incredibly poor packing by the seller and the gorilla tactics of the United States Postal Service. The bowl was free to move around in the meager packing material in the undersized box and, though marked "Fragile", the box was open at the seams on two sides, crushed and torn. I guess it is possible the seller used a crap box, though. My heart sinks whenever I see USPS as the carrier of something breakable, based on past experiences. There was actually a piece of some weird metallic coating from some of the packing material adhered to the glass which took a lot of soaking and scraping to get off. Despite of all of this negligence, it cleaned up into a mint condition piece except for a little bit of wear to the bottom. Hard to believe.

This is the third piece of my $100 labeled Japanese glass "challenge" and cost $44 with free shipping. There was no shipping price on the box, so I can't really justify subtracting shipping costs. With the $24 spent on the first two pieces, that is a total of $68 which leaves me with $32 to find two more pieces of labeled Japanese art glass. It is a nail biter since I am also looking for nice pieces!

I definitely got lucky on this one as the only other example I could find was going for over $200 plus a hefty shipping cost. I'll take it, though.

Absolutely beautiful piece, from the lovely shape to that gorgeous sunny shade of yellow, a real gem!

My local post office has a special section for PO boxes & I've been lucky, any breakage is usually due to poor packing on the seller's end (for me). My pink Fenton gazelle is my second one because first seller did not secure the spindly lower legs & they smashed, so I was very careful to advise the second seller to put xtra packing around the legs & she nicely complied. There were only 450 of those made so think I was lucky to find another. You are right tho, anything glass sent by mail (even courier) is risky

Gotta admit, I think I'd be tempted to display that lovely chunk of glass *upside down* (as in your 3rd pic) just to emphasize its exquisite swirly shape... ;-) <giggle>

I love the almost Amber Color of Yellow that this Hineri Iwata bowl has Kevin! What a great find, and good luck at reaching goal! :^D Thanks for posting!

@Newfld - Thanks, Jenni! It is a peach. Ugh, sorry to hear about your Fenton gazelle..

@AnythingObscure - I agree, the bottom is the most striking part and it is hidden when it sits on its base.

@billretirecoll - Thanks! It is a great yellow. It may take awhile to make my goal, but a great excuse to look at a lot of glass..

      Yellow!! So good, not common.
      Label too.
Hineri actually means twist in Japanese. Cool hey!

Ok so this is Iwatsu, not Iwata. Iwatsu were one of Japan’s biggest makers of handmade glass post war to the 1990s when they shut down.
Iwatsu were a huge supplier to Kamei, and also sold under their own two labels, Hineri and Art Glass.
