A very interesting piece of furniture that my Mother was given when she got married. It was part of a set and I have the two chairs to match. She owned this for about 50 yrs and it was second hand when she got it, she could never afford to have it done so when I received it after she died I promised myself to re furbish it for her, shame that she never got to see it re-done. Chairs will be done in the summer.

Chairs are now done to suit the decor of each room that they will brighten up, not to everyone's taste maybe but easierly changed in the future if needs be

What you have is commonly referred to as a "Bustle chair", or a "Photographer's Chair". They are typically Victorian or Eastlake period, and would have one side open so that a woman could easily sit and still have a place for her skirt to go off to the side so as not to crush the dress. Very cool piece of furniture.... My wife would love to find one of these in our area to put in our bedroom in our 1912 home.

I agree.... Mom is smiling down knowing that it is being well loved as a treasured heirloom.
