If this vase did not have a sticker on it, and if I didn't trust my seller, I would have thought it Italian, or possibly Czech.
It is made in a style made famous by Murano firms such as Mandruzzato, a style that was also made by other Euro glass companies through the 60s and 70s.
It is made from a green glass inner with blue added in the sommerso style. Sommerso, or submerged, glass is not easy to do well, and the layer of blue here is almost perfect in it's evenness. The coloured glass has been thickly cased in clear, and then ground back to give the geometric form. The resulting optics are pretty cool. It is time consuming and expensive style to make.
As is the Japanese way, it is perfectly finished and is a good lump of glass. It is heavy at 2kg, and bigger than most of this style at 25cm.

Noritake did not make their own glass, and it's probable this was made by either Sasaki or Kagami.

It is the only one of this style I have seen from Japan, so not a common piece.

It looks so crisp, so well executed and yet by a company perhaps more renowned for its ceramics. Well I learn something new every day! Great colour combination too.

      Cool Kevin, and thanks.

Jenni, thanks! The colours are fresh and nice.

Thanks for the love and comment foseatme!

I was fortunate to find it Bill, thanks so much.

Rarely made even in Italy these days Eileen, the time cost is huge! Thanks for the love and comment.

I learned when it showed up too Peggy. I think it's rare, and beautifully made. I'm lucky I know.

What a surprise! I love Noritake's most early 20th century porcelain, but was never attracted by their post 1950 glass forays.

This is beautiful. I admire the somerso style, especially with a simple form vase like this. Thanks for posting Karen.

about 9. another typo on my part, a million apologies.

The other issue is using the terms in another language, some are very obscure for most people. I make an effort to be understood when I communicate with a typed comment, I leave the mysteries out, and try to have an understandable statement for most of the members.

Of course some may think I don't know the Chinese, Japanese, Italian, German, French, or English terminology or reign periods. That is not the case, for me it is more important to convey what I say simply. It's been a while where I felt I needed to explain this approach here on CW. Thanks Karen, you end up with the message....lol.

I've got a vase I've been wanting to show you for a few years actually but wasn't so sure about it and just waited. Yep, one like it finally surfaced. Now if I can just remember where I put the info?!? I think I know. I'll get it posted in a bit but I was definitely right about it being Japanese!

Sue, all goes well here for me apart from the usual environmental and political stuff. It's pretty hot today (46c, about 115f) and we are safe from fires. Poor people and critters in other places, things are still catastrophic.
Apart from that my life seems now to be running around looking for things I remember only recently putting aside somewhere safe. Also, trying to recall names and words. My brain, my brain!!
Thanks babe, hope to see your vase when you find it!!!

Hey renedijkstra I don't want to have disputes happening, I just like to see and read about stuff.
Whether you and other CW people have disputes is not for me.
I do always appreciate your knowledge however.

Karen, I love your answer to the above. I saw the happenings after I commented and was close... then on 2nd thought I figured I'd stay out of that.

I know where the darn vase is and just the other day was telling Alan how my filing system was much like his! Probably worse because I swear I knew where I put the info on the vase I just can't seem to find it. But did take pics and even tho they didn't come out well, I'll go ahead and post it anyway. You may very well know the name of the vase anyway. I can't even imagine the scurrying around and panic you must have been feeling, and now trying to put it all back together! I'll try to get it posted tomorrow or at least by the end of the week, I'd rather at least take better pics. xoxo
