This is my great, great, great grandfather's bible dated July 25, 1882. It is very fragile, with a brass clasp that holds it closed. He had originally written his name on the inside cover, John W. Call. I very seldom get it out of it's "home". I get nervous that I am going to break it or tear a page. I am planning on looking into getting the spine re-done, but I want it to stay original. I hope everybody loves this as much as I do!! I have one more of his, two of his brother-in-law's (who was a pastor), and one of his daughter's.
It is not a Bible, on the inside page it reads "Gate of Heaven; or, Way of the Child of Mary. A Manual of Prayers and Instructions"
Yes, he was a Catholic. I believe a very faithful Catholic. He is buried by himself in a Catholic cemetery and his wife and both children are buried elsewhere. I always am very careful, and always wear those gloves when dealing with my old family book and documents.
