Stunning piece bjb5859!! Excellent job as well and as usual !!
Nice Job as usual Ben, Yeah I'd be willing to bet you'll never find another one like it.
It's a really wonderful trunk Ben. Those latches are awesome. I knew Martin Maier had a patent for front latches as well as the rear hinge. If I waited long enough eventually I would see some form of his patents intentions. Thanks for the post!

Your Welcome Drill, and thanks for the link
I do find it ironic that Martin used (1885 F.W. Beckwith patented) hinges on a trunk with his own patented latches and all his hardware.

I was surprised not to see his own patented hinges used.
Although I have seen it used on a few of his trunks in the past.
Maybe at some time he stopped having it produced? Not sure!

Always a thrill to see your posts!
Thank you Im4anythingOld
To funny I didn't notice I already commented on your trunk. I knew it had been a while since I was on, and behind in viewing and thought I missed it. So you can have the second comment as well, I will make a new one when you post again..lol
You have done it again - most elegant!
Thank you Elisabethan
Whats the deal with the slat ends covered in metal and some painted? Which do you think came first, any thoughts?
Don't really know, maybe the higher end trunks
were wrapped in metal and the cheaper ones weren't.
Personally I like them wrapped in metal.
Thanks Ben for the thoughts. Makes sense from what I see on my own couple of MM.
