My first big tin (or whatever it is) sign. This is 3' x 4' which seems fairly large for a soft drink sign.
I couldn't find a match for the sign but I did see a vending machine with the same Nesbitt's logo in the eye shaped white field. And it looked 1960so I am going with 1960s. It is not to my usual standard but going with that.
Now as how to see if I sign is vintage look at the backside. Rust is a good thing to see and feel there. They paint rust on so it helps to feel, Dents are also good as are chips.
Also on the backside is the label from the maker which is The Stout Sign Company. They are still in business which is no help in dating it. Also they are at the same location. The sign business has changed a lot so they did well to stay around this long. Nesbitt's went under in 1972 although another company took over the name. It is still be sold today by a retro soda company.
Also of note is raised letters and not porcelain. Porcelain survived direct sunlight and I fear this sign could fade. Perhaps a sign expert could inform me.
Of further note is that I put it up in 20 degree weather having been snowed in. That is a bit painful as I couldn't wear gloves while attaching it to the wall with screws. Had to come in every so often to warm up. It was record snow for Thanksgiving day.
Nice sign , I think you right on the date
Thank you very much purvis. You are the sign expert.
very nice sign!!!
What a WAY COOL sign fort -- and so sorry you had to endure the subfreezing temps and whatnot to hang it up so properly...still in the low 50's here right now... ;-) :-)
Nice sign!! I just got back from Virginia and that white stuff is all over my property, got to go out and shovel the driveway this morning, at least the temp is above the freeze mark.
That looks like a good sign to me! No snow ...yet here in lower Michigan.
Thank you very much Sean.
Thank youy very much AO. It's mine own fault for living in a place in southern California where it snows.
Thank you very much EJW. We had a big rain that melted mostof the snow so I can pull up further in my driveway.
Thank you very much iggy. No fear, it will be coming.
