Passport issued to Wanda Werminska in Rio De Janeiro. Mrs. Werminska was a truly diva in pre-war Poland. Since 1926 and up to 1929, she was main solist of the Warsaw Opera. Best know for her creation of Carmen in Bizet's masterpice and in Verdi's "Aida". She was called as "scenic heroine". Favourite opera singer of Marshal Pilsudski. She took part in his birthday party at Belweder. Due to many connections with Polish Diplomatic Service she also sung for President of Latvia. Her operatic arias were known in many European capitals (Vienna, Prague, Bucharest, Istambul, Rigue and Tallin). Her perfect life ended on September 1st, 1939. She escaped to Brasil.
But imagine that. The greatest Polish diva is forced to play in travelling theaters in Chile, Argentina or Paraguay. She lived in small apartment in Rio. She decided to return to Poland in 1949. However, she was unable to rebuild her image. In 1953 she resign and started her own vocal school. She teached such famous Polish singers as Irena Santor or Maryla Rodowicz. Mrs. Wanda Werminska died on August 30, 1988. Her autobiography "On both hemispheres" contains her pre-war ideal life, and hard post-war reality.
