I don't know much about this piece at all I found it in a second hand store.
I'm not sure of its age or the type wood It is pretty heavy wood maybe Oak or mahogany it does have some porous areas on the back .
It looks to be hand carved does anyone know anything about this? it has a number on the back #32. maybe that's the year or production number that's the only marking.

That's possible there is some porous areas on the back it makes me think that it's more mahogany then maybe Oak but I'm not sure about Indonesian / Filipino I'd suspect it would have cracks because they are known to use Green wood.
There are no cracks. it is a beautiful piece though I really love it it fits perfect over a doorway in my home.

I assure you that you can rule out oak because oak is more open grained where this is tight. Mahogany is possible but looking at the back in the carved portion I would be tempted from the photo to call it either walnut or dark walnut. The number 3 shows considerably lighter wood where carved. That wouldn't be common with mahogany but would be with walnut. Stated from my experience and not written in stone.

Yes I was thinking for above a doorway also, possibly over a window also. A very nice piece. I love finding some of the very old antique ones also which have a more substancial architectural feeling to them in different styles, and overseas in Paris I do see more of them.
