Great Stove I feel warmer already!!!
Stuff
Check around in the shed where you found the stove for another part.....those 2 holes near the bottom below the door would have held a tray to catch ashes whenever the stove door was open.
You did a great job restoring the stove!
I don’t believe you are accurate due to that is not a door above them. It’s on the side.
Hmmm, the holes are perplexing then, if not for an ash tray. They were put there for some reason.
Perhaps there was a tray there for drying boots, or some such purpose.
Is there any indication of a decorative finial that would have been in top?
My wood stove’s finial pivots to the side if I want to put a pan on the cook surface.
Maybe the holes would be a place to hang the finial to get it out of the way while cooking was done....I’m just speculating, of course.
Maybe someday you will come across an old catalog or sales ad with pictures when it was new and the question will be answered.
It's for a trim or bumper piece that matches the silver trim on the top lip. I have the same stove.
