Hi
interesting indeed!
check out this web site:
https://www.londonfine.co.uk/pages/roberson-co-99-long-acre-london.
The firm named on the reverse actually supplied art products to Turner..!
(The spelling of address where it says "Acer" - seems odd..but Acer is actually an old english name for "Acre" see:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/acre
The firm Roberson are still in business today. the wording on the reverse says it was "prepared" by them - meaning, presumably, they mounted it in the frame etc.
My advice would be to send the photographs to them... these places normally have an archivist who may well be able to look it up for you....espcially as it appears to have a reference number on it .."69"..
good luck!..wish it were mine!
regards
Paul
p.s if you do find any more information - I would be interested to follow the story.
ok ..so this is wierd. .. at this link you will find a list of "Roberson" stamps.
https://www.npg.org.uk/assets/files/pdf/research/artists_materials_8_Roberson.pdf
your one ( with the spelling "ACER") is not included....
regards
Paul
p.s one other thing, Robersons were at 51 Long Acre until 1853 - as shown on the stamp list at the link above. the address 99 Long Acre was only used after that date. William Turner died in 1851....
..and finally! at this link you will find information about the Roberson Archives:
