Just scored this, no makers marks and unsure if its 50s, 60s or 70s. I suspect a Sears special but looking has just begun :)

Is it maybe a "shoe polish" caddy instead, made to hold cans of polish/brushes/rags/ etc in its drawer at the bottom while also providing a 'rest' on top for one foot at a time while you (or Dad, or whoever) was actually polishing the shoe??

My Dad's one was a totally wooden box that's top opened instead, but that sure looks like it coulda been made to perform the same function...?? :-) :-) :-)

[oh, and pretty kittycat too... ;-) ]

First of all, no fair showing cats, much less multiple cats, in your images as I reflexively "Love" your post before even reading it. Agree with AnythingObscure, this was probably meant to hold shoe polishing supplies for someone who was shining shoes. Coincidentally, just this morning, for the first time in a few years, I spent about 45 minutes cleaning up my personal shoe polish station that is exactly like the one AnythingObscure described. I attribute my neglect to the fact that I have exclusively worn only Vibram Five Fingers, and recently Voovix, shoes which are not polished, but tossed in the washing machine!
