This Swedish Husqvarna bolt action rifle was made between 1952 and 1956. It has a Mauser 98 action, made of Swedish steel, select grade European walnut Monte Carlo stock and is chambered in .30-06. The barrel has a tiny maker's marking that reads "HUSQVARNA VAPENFABRIKS AB .30-06 US". It is also signed by the armorer who made it, but I am not sure where that mark was put.
I am vegan, don't hunt, etc., but wanted to add a representative vintage large game hunting rifle to my collection. But which rifle? I am a collector of military surplus rifles, so I wanted a rifle that was purpose built as a hunting rifle, not a Bubba'd milsurp, both vintage and uncommon, something that had been used in North America and preferably with some sort of military connection. I am a fan of Swedish military rifles and came across these Husqvarna rifles.
A 1953 advertisement for this rifle and its companion 1100 model says they are "available to you at this popular price through the miracle of modern international trade". Cool! The 1100 had a jeweled bolt. It is believed that the combined total of Model 1000 and 1100 rifles imported into the U. S. totals less than 2,000. This is probably because importers faced stiff competition from American makers like Winchester, Savage and Remington.
This rifle has been fired but has had very few rounds through it and is in nearly new condition except for some handling dings to the stock. It is in original condition except for the removal of the rear sight and installation of a Bushnell scope sight using the mounting holes pre-drilled by Husqvarna. Since it is built on a military action, I am adding this to the Military and Wartime section.

Yeah, I know ya sure ya betcha is Minnesotan Norwegian slang, but couldn't resist. My DNA tests usually come back around 10% Swedish/Norwegian so I am using the Nordic card...
Don't move to VA, unless you chose sides. LOL ! Beautiful target/defense rifle. I got some real accurate scores reloading 110 gr. bullets.
@blunderbuss2 - Warning noted! I don't reload anymore. Just ran out of space for reloading equipment. I also seldom shoot paper anymore. I prefer action shooting and steel targets, so I can get more exercise.
Thanks for loving my Husqvarna rifle!

Great write up. Fantastic rifle.
Worth a small fortune. Maybe?
Thanks for your comment and love for my rifle. Surprisingly, these don't go for a lot of money in the U.S. despite their amazing quality and workmanship, in the $500-$600 dollar range in this condition. Americans don't like furrin' guns. Not sure what they sell for in Europe.... In .30-06, probably not much. In 8 mm, maybe a different story... If you are looking for a superior quality rifle of this vintage these are a good option, if you can find one.
