I purchased this tool from an Amish store in Wisconsin. The elderly store owner didn't know what it was for. The cast steel part of the tool measures 7 inches. The handle is 30 inches long and 1 1/2 inches diameter. There are no markings on the tool. The only thing I can find that looks similar is a tool for repairing thatch on a roof. I would appreciate help in a positive identification of this tool. Thank you to anyone who can help.
I have a similar, though not exact (without going outside to look again, mebbe its closer than I recall at the moment) tool in my garden tool shed, which I've always thought (for no particular reason) was intended to help extract dandelions from one's front yard.
We have folks around here that'll probably know...? ;-) :-) :-)
I had that thought as well. The handle on this tool is one half as long though. It doesn't look like any weeding tool I've ever seen before. Thank you for your comment.
The fork on a dandelion root cutter is much thinner and sharp to sever the root. This would have to be much longer because a dandelion has a tap root and the objective is to cut the root far enough below ground level so it won't regrow.

I just went outside to look and my tool is *nearly* identical. Its entire blade is shaped the same but its ferrule is a little longer/different so the metal part is 12" long, my handle is 24" long. Mine appears to have some lettering reading "PAT FEB 11 1919" (?) in the 'spoonish' shaped side close to the handle, if there's any other lettering on the other side I can't make it out.
