I was lucky enough to have this beautiful poppy vase arrive earlier this week; I am thrilled with it. It is a deep burgundy red at the top, and gradually fades to just about clear at the base. It also has a very, very fine crackle texture at the top, which becomes slightly more pronounced towards the base. It is beautifully enameled with four sets of red poppies and leaves all around the vase. What I find unusual is that it has quite a strong green iridescence that almost makes it look like a rubina verde piece until you look at it closely. It is a good size, 6" across by 6-1/4" tall. (Thanks to the seller for allowing me to use their photos!)
Based on the style of enamel work, I believe it could be by Fritz Heckert. I also found several examples of vases with very similar glass, including the color and fine crackle texture, enameled, and attributed to Fritz Heckert. I was not able to find this shape in my Heckert book or online, so if anyone has seen it before, I'd love to know about it. Thanks!
That is a WONDERFUL piece of glass !!!!
Thank you Kevin! I am glad you think so! Warren says that it is definitely Heckert, which was nice to hear, too. :)
I think definitely Heckert poppies. Gorgeous vase!
