I inherited these two beauties from my grandpa. His story was they came from the barn owned by a John A. M. Adair who was a house representative. I've looked for info on the Adair family but not much luck finding any historical photos to place the chairs. I also heard the chairs may have come out of a courthouse in Indiana, possibly Noble county. They have the original leather but the brads are starting to pull up so I can see they are stuffed with "straw". Any help would be great.

      Hello,
I don't have any helpful info., other than I just bought 2 very similar styled chairs. I'm following your post to see what you find out.

I don't know how to post a photo here but I created a thread on them that I can link to so you can see the picture. The frame is very similar and very sturdy. I usually donate any antique chairs instead of using them do to loose glue joints but these are in fantastic shape.

Those chairs in the linked info are just beautiful!
I love that “pony” hyde upholstery idea.

The ones in this post just need some TLC and a professional reupholstering to look stunning.

I seen a pair here not long ago. Isn't it strange the leather is not ripped ? I have only seen these as reproductions since they did not make lady handles or legs with long flowing hair in Victorian times. I would think 1990's. These look so wrong to be original and why leave them stripped. They also appear so part of a rather bad design. Thailand is making these as reproductions and I have seen several tv shows where they go down there and bring back many pieces to re-sell !~
