Essays, mathematical and physical: containing new theories and illustrations of some very important and difficult subjects of the sciences. Never before published. By Jared Mansfield published 1802.
This book is considered one of the first published works from an American scientist. Mansfield was a professor at West Point and Surveyor General under Thomas Jefferson. Somehow this copy went from New Haven Connecticut where it was printed, to Canterbury UK and sold from the Canterbury Philosophical Library for 50cts to Peter Spicer around 1830, then fast forward to 2017 and purchased by me from a Value Village (thrift store) in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada.
This is the pride of my collection no other item has the history (written in first few page) or has such historical significance this book holds. The kicker is I am in school for math/physics and found this the summer I applied for University. I am far too scared of damaging it so I have never read it.
