Saturday Evening Scout Post Rank and Patrol Patches 1945-1954

The Cobra Patrol patch is actually 1972-1989 but I left that out of the title to keep it simple. Anyway I picked up some older patches last weekend. Just did my research and they are from the 1945-1954 period. The way one tells with these is the borders and back of the patch. The patches before these had no sort of backing, it was just cloth with the emblem sewn on. The First class scout patch has the gauze backing although the Star does not. But it does have the threads visible on the back which wouldn't be seen on the older version. Not sure why the First Class patch is larger when Star is a higher rank. That is just how it is.
The trim on the edge of the patch is another indicator of age. The older the patch the rougher the edge. The Star and First class just have a single thread to make a border. The Eagle patrol patch has the black circle but this is not the border of the patch. You can see how the edge of the patch is frayed. The Cobra patch has the circle as the border and it seems to hold up much better than the older patches.
let me figure out how many patches I have to have to get a complete set of each rank with every variation. It is a lot.
